Which is Right: Honesty or Dishonesty?
I was so excited when I moved into our townhouse because there were two dental offices right outside our door. So before applying elsewhere I decided to stick close to home. I dropped off two resumes and the next day received a call asking me to come in for a working interview. A working interview is pretty self explanatory, basically they get you to come in for a day and work and then based on your work decide if they would like to hire you or not.
When the lady called I did not have my dental hygiene license for the province so I told her I was unable to do so, because by law you can not work on a human until to have the license in your hand. She informs me "No, no, you are fine, you can do it." So I agree to do it. But after I get off the phone Farron tells me I can't do it for legal reasons, and I start questioning it myself. So I decide to call the licensing board to find out for myself. Sure enough I am not allowed to do a working interview.
So I call the office back and ask if we can reschedule once I have my license. Well she proceeeds to tell me it is fine I can do it without the license. I tell her I have just spoken to the board and I can not do it, I could not get licenses at all if anything were to happen. She responds with "Oh no nothing would happen. If you are comfortable working, it's fine with us." To which I finally respond I can not ethically do this." And she finally gets it. And says" We'll have to call you back then."
Well that has been well over two weeks and no call back. We figure they just needed someone for the day and called me since I dropped of a resume the day before. I was really upset about all of this. I just found it shocking really that an office would make me feel bad for being honest. I can not believe they would have let me work with out a license and basic tried bullying me into it, telling me they had cancelled another person because I said I could do it.
All I can say is I am thrilled I discovered what kind of office this was before I actually started working their. I have now resorted to applying to offices further away. So tomorrow I have an interview at a small downtown office. I am pretty excited, but nervous at the same time. I just hope it all works out...soon!
