Breathe in Breathe out

This week's homework assignment was to try to meditate for 20 minutes and write about my experience. At first I snarled up my nose and was dreading the whole thing. I considered making up the whole assignment, but since I had a little bit of free time I decided why not give it a go. So there I sat in my room, legs crossed, back straight, hands in lap, eyes closed, deep breath in and out. At first this really killed my back and I thought I was going to cry from sheer pain. Anyways, I kept going and focused on my breathing and after a minute or so the pain subsided. And it was so strange at first my mind was all bogged down with useless thoughts, but then as time went on I actually felt relaxed and my mind drifted back to my teenage happy place, Crow's Neck beach. It was so nice, I actually started smiling thinking about it. I could see myself sitting on the rock at the end of the beach watching the waves roll in and thinking about the future. While meditating I also was reminded of the boat rides Dad use to take me on, and the times Mom and Dad and me would drive down to the lighthouse on the way home from church and look at the crashing waves, watch the light go round, and listen to the fog horn (to this day that is still one of my favourite sounds). I'm really glad I gave meditation a try, it actually was really refreshing and brought up a lot of good memories I had forgotten, or put aside. Lately, I've been so miserable it seems I've been focusing on all the negative in my life it was nice to be able to think about the good things in life for once. I miss the Ocean....

Meditation really is great...especially when you do it with music. I never get the chance to do it much, but that should be my goal...to put aside a little time each day to meditate. :-)
I was really surprised that anything happened, I think I am a believer in the benefits of meditation now!
